By: Bhishma Kukreti (A History Student)
After having arrangement for loaders and carriers, in May 1815, Amar Singh Thapa started his journey for Nepal with his soldiers. His way was from Malaun to Kurukshetra, Haridwar and Pailibhit to Nepal. Lieutenant Murray was with a few soldiers was with Amar Singh Thapa for his safety.  Old , defeated, sad Amar Singh Thapa was in embarrassing situation as he was leaving the land which he won with strength and hard work. There is no information about the numbers of soldiers with him and with Ranjor Singh and Balbhadra those returned to Nepal.
                      Nasiri Battalion
Till the war ended in Himachal and Ravain, around 4650 soldiers from Gurkha side joined British Army. Those ex Gurkha army soldiers were deputed for protection of various Garhis (Forts and Fortress) .The ex Gurkha army soldiers in Hindur and Nahan were also eager for joining British army. British did not need those much soldiers now. However, Hastings already promised the deserting soldiers of Gurkha army that British would appoint them.  British commanders created three Nasari battalions for those ex Gorkha army soldiers. Every battalion had six companies and every company had 120 irregular soldiers. The first and second battalions were named as Nasiri Battalion and third were named as Sirmaur Battalion.
Same way, a new Battalion Kumaon Battalion was established for irregular such soldiers. Those ex Gurkha soldiers were habitual of cruel behaviours with common people and were habitual of looting people. Those soldiers started same behavior with people as they used to give pain to common people.
