             There are sources for understanding historical aspects of Katyuri Kingdoms in Kumaon and Garhwal. There are inscriptions and temples available for providing knowledge of Katyuri era.

                              Scripts of Katyuri Inscriptions

                 The script of Katyuri inscriptions is Kutila script. This Kutila scripts is also found in Magadha, barely and in Tibetan inscriptions of that age (seventh to thousand AD). Atkinson states that the script is in good Sanskrit couched in classical eulogistic style. The script states that Katyuri kingdom was well organized, powerful and flourishing. Similar types of inscriptions are found in Munger and Bhagalpur of Pal dynasty.

                   Three King Families of Katyuri

              The Katyuri Age inscriptions suggest that there were three Katyuri families who ruled Kumaon and Garhwal.

  Vasantandev, Nimbardev and Salonaditya were the founders of respective family kingdom. 

  Bageshwar inscription show Vasantandev. Therefore it is difficult to know who the real founder of Katyuri kingdom was.
