Dr. Anil Dabral claims the modern Garhwali short story ‘Junyali Rat’ or “jonu par Chhapu kilai?’ of Mohan Lal Negi as one of the finest stories of modern Garhwali stories.
The story deals with children helping farm jobs as to take animals to grazing fields; carelessness of children due to their age of playing and not the age of working; the husband and wife working full night for harvesting the ripped crop.
Sonu and his wife are alone in agriculture work and they have to spend full night to cut ripped crops in moonlight.
The story teller Mohan Lal Negi is successful in creating atmosphere of average village of Garhwal when there is heavy load of works for cutting the ripped crops. Negi also create images of children taking the (forcibly) job of taking care of animals for grazing but they become busy in their games. Mohan lal negi depicts the moon light scene when Sonu and his wife are cutting ripped Kharif crop-Jhangora.
The story teller illustrates the emotions and happening in the nature through various enjoyable means such as through plains words, metaphors, figure of speeches, allegory, parable, proverbs, common sayings etc. the story writer Mohan Lal Negi is master of creating images by using exact phrases or symbols.
Mohan Lal Negi is always master for portraying children psychology very well. Here in Junyali Rat, Negi perfectly illustrate children psychology and shows how children create new world through their own story creation.
Mohan lal Negi is master of words and phrases and he showed his capability in the story ‘Junyali Rat’. One of the differences between folk story and modern story is that folk story tellers assert the belief but modern fiction writers search the belief and Mohan Lal Negi searches many aspects of life in ‘Junyal Rat’. There is black spot on the moon because the light is non-applicable for common man except that moon light helps the thieves or dacoits. Moonlight helping dacoits and thugs is the black spot on the moon.  However, the works by farmers in moonlight is capable wiping the black spot of moon.
The story is very artful and with morality too but, morality is never sermonic in this story but the whole story tells the morality and value of morality.

The story is proof about observing power of Negi and his sensibility for various aspects of life.
‘junyali rat’ makes Mohan Lal Negi one of the modern finest fiction writers of world literature and ‘Junyali Rat’ is one of the finest stories of world fiction literature.
