Head Master Hirderam is one of the stories of his first story collection ‘Ek Dhanga Se Sakshatkar’ head master Hirdairam Harbola was teacher in basic school Haindakhal. Master was famous for his wooden stick. Master Hirdairam used to talk in Sanskrit with stick. Hirdairam was famous for disciplining the students and was eager students get their basic education. Another teacher was Sitab Sing who was maore interested in sleeping and playing cards.
When one of the students of Hirdairam becomes inspector of schools, Hirdairam gets promotion because of his disciplinary methods. The story tells about education system and relationship between teaching community and society.  Through symbolic (stick) means Joshi shows that discipline is one of the means of teaching. Since Bhagwati Prasad Joshi was also primary school teacher he portrayed various inner parts of primary education system in this story.
The characters are as per the need of theme and plats of story. The language of story is simple and realistic.
