Chinta: A Garhwali Drama about Political Manipulation for getting Election Party Ticket

(Review of’ Chinta ‘ (2011) a Mini Garhwali Drama by playwright Kula Nand Ghansala)

                                                             Bhishma Kukreti
Chinta Mani’s wife leaves him for her mother’s house just before the announcement of party tickets for the forthcoming the election. For many years, Chinta Mani worked for the party and is a dedicated party worker. Due to population shifting his area is now reserved for females only to fight election. His wife is not there. His uncle Veer Sing counsels him. Chintamani declared the candidate in place of his wife and everybody is shocked.
The mini drama is about political maneuvering and discusses about various mal practices used in getting party ticket, winning the election and thereafter. Ghansala a renowned drama activist also tells in the drama ‘Chinta ‘about two marriages of our famous leaders (Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna, Dr. Shiva Nand Nautiyal etc).
The drama is humorous and totally satirical. There is much scope for director and performers to make the drama a hilarious and provocative too.
Kula Nand has power to play with Garhwali words to make drama provocative.
