            ‘Am ki Dani ‘is very interesting and one of the modern best stories of Garhwali languages. This is one of the finest Garhwali stories depicting children psychology about their desires. Garhwali story lovers would know that Sada Nand Kukreti also portrayed children psychology and children desires in Garhwali’s first modern story ‘Garhwali Thath’ (1913).

             Kirpal a child comes to the court with his father who does not have hands. There, he sees a child sucking mango. His desire for mango becomes very sharp. Kirpal wanted mango very badly. Children have thousands of desires but they don’t have resources.  Kirpal requests many times to his father for money to buy mango. Adults though passed with same situation do not understand the burning desires of children. His father gives money to buy a mango. Kirpal sucked the mango so much that the inner nut started feeling pain.

   The story is successful in portraying children desires, frustration by not fulfilling the desires and the extreme satisfaction of child by getting the desired objects. The language is simple for such a complex subject. The story theme has less opportunity for incidents happening but the story teller Mohan Lal Negi creates story as if the incidents were happening very fast.

  ‘Am ki Dani’ is one of the finest examples of children psychology in Garhwali fiction.
