Bachhaudo Nritygeet : A Garhwali Free Style Folk Dance Song

The Bachhaudo dance is free style circle dance and mixer of dances as Chanchari, jhodo, Bausarela, Chhapeli and Thadya dances. The dance absorbs the focus of dancers as happened in Punjabi Bhangda dance.Usually there are two circles of male and female dancers separately. Howver, many times, the female and male dancers dance in a single circle too.
The dance is dedicated to Binsar Shivalay and the devotee used to dance and sing the Bachhaudo dance-song at the courtyard of Binsar Shiva temple performed on Kartik Purnima.
When the dance song is complete the priest sing the following ritual song wherein the priest calls nag deities:
बिनसर मादेव पूजा गीत
बिनसर का नागो मारा बौछड़ो
बिनसर का मेला मारा बौछड़ो

पालिँगा सी डाळी हलै जांदी बथौं लै
Where has twinkling her eyes my Daunta gone ?
She gone sounding the small bells of scythe
Oh! There is immense attraction on the eyes of Daunta!
Her twinkling eyes are gorgeous
The waist of Daunta is flexible as Kumali’s beauty
That who would marry Daunta will die by her beauty
The beauty of Daunta is on everybody ‘s eye
Everybody is colored on the love of Daunta
Her beauty can’t come on her photo or shade
The teeth of Daunta are very bright and glittering
Daunta is as start twinkling on a hill
She is flexible as a spinach plant waves
The Bachhaudo बौछड़ो नृत्यगीत is very agile, pleasure some, attractive and free from any strict dance rules. The Hudkya (drum player, usually Badi) sings the song and play the small drum Hudka .
