Part-1 (Historical back Ground on the study of Kumanyuni language)
Pundit Ganga Datt Upreti of Pithora Garh was the first scholar who published about Kumayuni language and its main seven dialects within Kumayun region. Before the study of pundit Ganga Datt, scholars used to just to mention Kumayuni language for the sake of mentioning. When, in 1900 Ad, Pundit Ganga Datt Upreti published a book called, “Hill Dialects of Kumayun Division”, the scholars of language science came to about the strength and sanctity of Kumayun language. The famous phonetician (linguistic scientist) George Grigarson appraised the work of Pundit Upreti in his book “Survey of Indian languages’ (Vol-9, part-6, year-1916).

Dr Guna Nand Juyal is credit to study Kumayuni and Garhwali language scientifically. He detailed about Kumanyuni language in his research book, ‘Madhya Pahadi Bhasha ka Anushilan aur Uska Hindi se Sambadh’ (1967).

Dr Bhawani Datt Upreti published his research book, ‘Pithora Ggarh ki Boli aur uska Lok Sahitya in 1968. Dr Upreti submitted his D.Lit thesis on, Pithora sambhag ki boliyan to Allahabad University.

Dr Bhagat Singh submitted his D.Lit research thesis on ‘Kumayuni Boli ka Varnatmak Adhyayan’ to Jabaalpur University, in 1971.

Keshav Datt Ruvali submitted his PhD thesis kumayuni shabdawali ka vyutpattirak adhyayan to Agra University.

Dr Shobha Ram submitted a thesis on the language spoken by Ban Raut people of Kumayun region in 1972

Dr Munni Upreti submitted her PhD thesis on ‘Kumayuni and Garhwali kriya sanrachana to Allahabad University in 1975.
